Safeguarding Supervision: 2 day training from Safeguarding Bedfordshire

Do you have responsibility for oversight of safeguarding practice within your organisation and be provide (or want to provide) supervision to staff in relation to their own safeguarding practices.

This two day Safeguarding Supervision training will develop your understanding and skills as the supervisor in a safeguarding environment. You will build upon existing safeguarding supervision skills to ensure child centred practice when reviewing staff caseloads. (Note: This course does not cover general supervision and performance management, it is specific to safeguarding practice/ caseloads.)

This course will help you to

  • Understand the definitions, purpose and functions of child protection supervision and how it can contribute to good outcomes and safer working practice for children, young people families and employees.

  • Understand how to evaluate information and use this to inform decision making where concerns are identified.

  • Use supervision to enable supervisees to critically appraise their own safeguarding practice.

  • Discuss factors that affect decision making and look at lessons from serious case reviews.

  • Explore the emotional impact of the work and the effects this has upon decision making and safeguarding practice.

  • Explore restorative approaches to practice and supervision (support, resilience, coping strategies, emotional wellbeing and anxiety and the impact this has upon practice).

  • Discuss how documents such as the Assessment Framework and Threshold documents can inform decision-making.

  • Critically discuss the ways in which practitioners reason, make decisions and assess risk in their work with children and young people.
